Refuse Truck Manufacturer Supports Local Community in More Ways Than One

Community Involvement

Scranton, IA (October 14, 2019) - New Way Trucks, Inc., an Iowa-based refuse truck manufacturer, has been committed to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction since the company’s founding in the 1980s. Along with staying true to its principles, New Way follows the small-town values of local support and giving back to the community in meaningful ways. Being committed to Driving the Difference® is not just a company positioning statement, it is at the core of what New Way is striving for in their industry and community.

Every year, the company hosts a very successful blood drive at its headquarters in Scranton, working closely with the LifeServe Blood Center. More than 30 employees recently participated in this year’s blood drive and donated enough blood to help save an estimated 122 lives. This initiative provides an opportunity for everyone on the New Way team to give back to the community.

Supporting local community programs is also very important to New Way. The company strongly believes children are our future. In May, New Way funded the Scranton Library’s summer reading program. In addition to reading programs, this belief has extended into participation in Toys for Tots donations and local playground installation.

The industry-leading company was also involved with fundraising events that helped the town of Scranton prepare for their recent 150th anniversary. The team hosted a breakfast at the Scranton Community Center on the first day of celebration. A lineup of New Way refuse trucks also participated in the anniversary parade.

“Giving back to our community is an important part of our company culture,” said Don Ross, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the McLaughlin Family Companies and New Way Trucks. “Being located in the heartland of America, we have always considered our people to be our most valuable asset and we continue to invest in creating opportunities for our employees. This mentality also extends to how we approach the community. We want to provide opportunities for people to grow.”

Fostering interest in manufacturing among young adults and children is another component that New Way focuses on. Over the past three years, the company has hosted a welding competition for students. This competition allows young talent enrolled in high school or college to sign up for free and display their welding skills. The competition focuses on different weld techniques and has always had a great turnout.

New Way frequently gives tours to students. At the beginning of October, high school students from Greene County Community School District were given an in-depth tour of the company’s facilities on National Manufacturing Day. The students learned about how the refuse bodies are built and what New Way Trucks are capable of.
